My heart truly goes out to you. I lost my son at age 16 almost 11 years ago. (He left this earth a few days after being in a horrible accident.) Nothing can or ever will compare to the loss of a child, regardless of how young or how old they were. Hold tight to your faith. It won't take away the heartache or the void, but it will provide the strength you need to work through the grief. I once read that it takes 5 long years just to work through the grief process when you lose a child. It's just not the natural order of things. However, in time, you will learn to live with that void and the longing to see your precious Patrick. Just don't count each day as another day since he left...instead, consider that each day in your life brings you one day closer to him. You have an enormous investment in Heaven. Meanwhile, if you need to talk, cry, scream--whatever, feel free to contact me. I've been working with parents who lose children for a long time, now. It's been part of my own ongoing healing. May God give you the strength to endure the days ahead. You have many stages to work through. Embrace each of them as they come.
